Topaz Video Utilities

Hyperion expands SDR material into an HDR delivery space, Themis 2 reduces blur caused by camera or subject motion, and Video Colorization adds inferred color to monochrome footage. These tools solve different problems and should not be treated as interchangeable enhancement presets.

How to use this model

  1. 1

Choose the utility by the actual defect: Hyperion for SDR-to-HDR, Themis 2 for motion blur, or Colorization for monochrome footage.

  2. 2

Upload a high-quality source and isolate a short representative range before processing the full program.

  3. 3

For Hyperion, preview on an HDR-capable display and verify highlights, skin tones, and the intended delivery transfer function.

  4. 4

For Themis 2, inspect moving edges and fine texture to distinguish recovered detail from sharpening artifacts.

  5. 5

For colorization, review historically or brand-critical colors shot by shot and correct inferred color where necessary.

Hyperion

Hyperion converts standard dynamic range video into high dynamic range by expanding luminance range, bit depth, and contrast. It redistributes tonal values across highlights, midtones, and shadows to better utilize HDR display capabilities while preserving image detail and balance. The model supports HDR transfer function selection, allowing users to choose PQ for mastering and cinematic HDR delivery, or HLG for broadcast and display-referred workflows. This flexibility enables SDR footage to be adapted for a wide range of modern HDR pipelines.

Properties

  • Supports video_utilities workflows.

Best for

  • Expand SDR footage into HDR with increased bit depth and contrast
  • Improve highlight, midtone, and shadow separation beyond SDR limits
  • Choose PQ or HLG output to match professional HDR delivery workflows

Tips

  • Unlock HDR depth from SDR footage

How to use this model

  1. 1

Upload the source media at the best quality available.

  2. 2

Choose the restoration or enhancement variant that matches the defect.

  3. 3

Compare the output at full size and reduce strength if natural detail is lost.

Themis 2

Themis 2 reduces blur caused by rapid camera movement or fast-moving subjects. It recovers clarity and sharpness while avoiding harsh edges or artificial artifacts commonly introduced by aggressive sharpening. Motion Deblur is best suited for action footage, handheld shots, and fast motion scenarios where traditional sharpening cannot recover lost detail.

Properties

  • Supports video_utilities workflows.

Best for

  • Reduce motion blur from fast camera or subject movement
  • Recover clarity without introducing harsh or artificial edges
  • Improve legibility and detail in action-heavy footage

Tips

  • Restore clarity to fast-moving footage
